Private Dog Training in Long Beach, CA

If you've tried group classes and YouTube and your dog still turns you into a human kite down the Alamitos Bay path, the problem isn't you and it isn't your dog. Nobody built a plan around the two of you. That's what private training is.

Coaching built around your dog, not a script

Private training is one on one work for you and your dog. No cookie cutter curriculum, no waiting your turn behind nine other dogs. Every session targets where your dog actually struggles, whether that's pulling you down The Shops on 2nd Street, blowing off recall at Rosie's Dog Beach, or losing it at Bixby Park.

What you actually get

Our private program is the Foundations Program: six weeks of one on one coaching built on one truth. If you want a trained dog, you have to become a capable handler. Across six private sessions, you and your dog lock in the Core 4, Heel, Down, Place, and Recall, the skills that make daily life calm and predictable. You're not watching us train your dog. You're doing the work, with a trainer coaching you through every rep.

Long Beach Dog Training. Training Where Your Life Actually Takes Place

Dogs don't fall apart in a quiet training room. They fall apart on a packed bike path, at the Bixby Park farmers market, and at Belmont Shore on a busy afternoon. So, that's where we train. We proof your dog in the actual places you want to take them, from Downtown to Marine Stadium, so it holds up when it counts, not just at home.

Is private training right for you?

Private is the move if you want results, your schedule needs flexibility, or your dog needs focused attention a group can't give. It's also the strongest path for leash pulling, shaky recall, jumping, and door manners. If you want a dog you can take anywhere, built around your dog specifically, this is the program for you.

Real Long Beach dogs

“Charlie & his team are some of the best around. He has been such a tremendous help with your rescue “lab mix” (FYI…Charlie was the first to point out that most likely our “lab mix” wasn’t a lab at all & he was RIGHT!)

Charlie has been so patient, calm, and understanding with our boy. It’s been a welcome relief in the world of owning a misunderstood dog (aka reactive dog). I
have, and will continue, to sing Charlie & his teams praises!”

Common questions

  • How is private training different from a group class?

    • A group class teaches one curriculum to everyone at once. Private is built entirely around your dog and your goals, so you move faster and get help with your specific challenges.

  • How long does it take?

    • Six weeks, one private session a week with homework through our online platform in between. Most folks see a real difference in the first couple of sessions, and the six weeks is what makes it stick.

  • Do you train puppies or only older dogs?

    • Both. The earlier you build good habits the better, and the same handler first approach works whether your dog is four months or four years.

  • What tools do you use?

    • Whatever helps your dog learn clearly and fairly. We typically start with a slip collar and 6 foot leash, then prong collars or e-collars along with toys and food, matched to your dog.

  • Where do sessions happen?

    • Out in Long Beach where your dog needs the skills. The first 3 sessions are held at Marina Vista Park.

  • How do I get started?

    • Fill out a short application. We will give you a call and if it's a fit, we book an intro session, assess your dog in person, then build your plan.

Your Dog Should Be Able to Go Anywhere.

If that's not where you're at yet, private training is how you get there. See if you're a fit, apply today and let's build the dog Long Beach life is made for.
